I am happily married to my husband Joe for over thirty years. We have two successful daughters and 1 happy granddaughter. Our granddaughter, Hailee, keeps us young and she has taught me a lot about the future generation’s connection to technology. My iPhone was in her hands when she was about 6 months old. She now has her own iPhone, iPad and Chromebook, mostly because I was tired of sharing.
We like to go on short trips or long trips, of course taking Hailee with us. I like sharing the world with her and seeing her perspective on things. When our girls were growing up, traveling was quite limited. In my free time I like to quilt and play board games. I also like using innovative apps to tell a story, listen here.
After 11 months of planning I am now the Executive Director of iBuild Academy. I have opened a non profit after school program centered around STEM and fun. iBuild Academy features three ecosystems – visual programming, Minecraft, and engineering. This is the start of a new generation of problem solvers and critical thinkers.
Previously I was a Course Director at Full Sail University teaching in both the Educational Media Design and Technology and the Instructional Design and Technology Master’s degree programs. Prior to Full Sail University, I worked in the K-12 public education environment. Sixteen years were spent in Career and Technical Education implementing a wide range of hands on projects while promoting 21st century skills and Web 2.0 tools. During that time I was named Teacher of the Year from several local organizations as well as Florida’s Business Teacher of the Year.
My doctoral degree was awarded from NOVA Southeastern University in Instructional Technology and Distance Education. My dissertation focused on Blogging in the 9-12 Classroom. My Master’s degree was awarded from the University of Central Florida (UCF), Instructional Technology/Media: Educational Technology. My thesis focused on using technology to advance learning.
I am an Apple Distinguished Educator, a Google Certified Teacher and a New Media Consortium Ambassador for K-12. My mission is to reinvent education. We need to do things differently in order to create a world of critical and creative thinkers. I want to lead the change through through disruptive chaos in order to move forward in a global society.
